The Vice Presidential Candidate of the NPP Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, has criticized the opposition NDC for what he described as a slap on the face of Ghanaians following the NDC’s decision to launch a lawless vigilante group on the very day the whole nation was witnessing the launch of a National Peace Campaign ahead of election 2024.
Dr. Prempeh, who was speaking at a community engagement in Duadaso, in the Jaman North Constituency of the Bono Region, as part of his campaign tours, did not mince words in condemning the conduct of the NDC, and appealed to Ghanaians to vote wisely for a political party that values peace.
Dr. Prempeh, however, expressed no surprise at the conduct of the NDC last Sunday.
According to him, “the NDC does not care about development and the welfare of the ordinary Ghanaian. They only want your vote,” he observed.
NAPO buttressed his point by citing the launch by the NDC, of a vigilante group, called, “Ashanti Region Azorka Boys” ahead of the 2024 elections despite the passage of the anti-vigilante law, proscribing all vigilante groups and recommending severe punishment for lawbreakers.
He also cited the statement by the NDC presidential candidate, John Mahama, who he said, is on record as boasting about the revolutionary root of the NDC and claiming that when it came to unleashing violence, no political party could match them [the NDC]. He assured John Mahama that the NPP is a peace-loving party and so, will not compete with the NDC on violence, but on ideas.
His campaign tour also took him to Berekum West Constituency where he interacted with the chiefs and people of Jininini.
He said Dr. Bawumia remains steadfast in his commitment to forging a new partnership for development with traditional authorities at every step of the journey.
He noted that a future Bawumia administration, will prioritize the welfare of traditional authorities, recognizing them as essential partners in the work of nation-building.
He used the opportunity to also canvass for the NPP based on our record in government.
In fulfilment of a pledge made to the Berekum Traditional Council at their request during his campaign tour of the Bono Region, presented a bus on Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s behalf during a courtesy call on the Council. This gesture is aimed at enhancing their mobility and supporting the smooth performance of their vital duties.
