Heart of Lions shocked Asante Kotoko with a 1-0 victory in Obuasi, marking Kotoko’s second consecutive defeat of the season in the Ghana Premier League.
Kwadwo Obeng Jr., a former Hearts of Oak striker, scored the lone goal at Len Clay Stadium on Saturday, sealing Lions’ first away win this season.
Kotoko, coming off a loss to Legon Cities, struggled against a disciplined Lions team under their former coach Bashir Hayford. Obeng Jr.’s goal came in the 28th minute after Kotoko goalkeeper Mohamed Camara misplayed a clearance, allowing the striker to tap into an open net. Kotoko’s loss saw them drop to third place, while Lions climb to seventh.
Elsewhere, Bibiani GoldStars held onto the top spot despite a goalless draw against 10-man Dreams FC. GoldStars dominated possession and created several chances, but Dreams, yet to win a game this season, defended resolutely and missed a few key opportunities of their own. The draw extends Dreams FC’s winless run to nine matches.
Nations FC moved up to second, thanks to a 75th-minute goal by Faisal Charwetey that earned them a 1-0 win over Karela United. Charwetey’s fifth goal of the season makes him the joint-top scorer, providing a crucial lift for Nations FC.
In other games, Vision FC and Aduana FC played to a goalless draw, while Berekum Chelsea and Basake Holy Stars drew 2-2 in a thrilling encounter. Nsoatreman and Bechem United also shared the spoils with a 2-2 draw in Nsuatre.
