Information available to 3News indicates that the Public Procurement Authority (PPA) disapproved Parliament’s request to pay a private law firm, Sory@Law for legal services from state coffers.
Per documents sighted by 3News, the Speaker through the single source procurement method had intended to engage Sory@Law firm for legal services for which the firm would be paid a retainer fee of GHC5,000 had the request been approved.
In addition, the firm would have been paid a fee not exceeding GHC300,000 for the conduct of constitutional cases in the Supreme Court.
However, the PPA disapproved of this request with the explanation that, “since the Attorney-General is the Principal Legal Advisor, the Board is of the considered opinion that, Parliamentary Service should continue to use the Services of the A-G in all legal matters.”
