Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, Vice Presidential Candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has assured small-scale miners of the party’s commitment to providing resources for responsible mining practices.
According to him, the next NPP government, led by Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, will make available machines, financial support, and technical training to miners. He said this during a campaign rally at Seyerano in the Sefwi Juaboso constituency in the Western North Region.
At a durbar of Chiefs, Queen Mothers, Islamic and Christian clergy, identifiable groups, and community members at Seyerano in the Sefwi Juaso Constituency, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh presented a compelling case for choosing Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia over John Mahama on December 7.
He entreated constituents in Juaboso to vote massively for NPP Parliamentary Candidate, especially in the face of the many impediments posed by the NDC minority in Parliament.
He appealed to mining the communities to vote for the NPP to ensure effective measures are implemented. “This initiative aims to address the issue of illegal mining in Ghana. The NPP government is not opposed to mining but will not tolerate environmental destruction caused by miners.”
He also met with students of the College of Health in Sefwi Asafo. He said since NPP came to power, they were able to receive a free high school education. Their allowances, which were canceled under John Mahama, have been restored by the NPP.
“It is safe and worthwhile to keep faith in the political party that introduced Free SHS and reinstated your allowances, rather than vote for someone who now claims to have changed,” NAPO said.
He also acknowledged that in 2016, for every 100 males who went to school, only 67 females attended. But now, for every 100 males in school, 107 females are also attending. This trajectory, he said will continue under the dynamic leadership of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
