The Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) in Takoradi, Western Region, has issued a three-week ultimatum to customers with outstanding debts, urging them to clear their balances or face prosecution.
This strict measure is part of the company’s intensified debt recovery efforts aimed at sustaining its operations.
Currently, GWCL is owed GH¢23 million by consumers in the Western Region, with 90% of the debt attributed to domestic users and 10% to commercial clients.
The accumulating debt stems from customers’ consistent delays or incomplete payments for monthly water bills.
Acting Chief Regional Manager, Nana Barimah Barnier, expressed concern over the financial strain these unpaid debts place on the company, particularly in maintaining treated water supply for the region.
He emphasized the need for customers to prioritize their water bill payments, stressing that timely payments contribute significantly to national development.
The GWCL has stated that legal action will be pursued against customers who fail to meet the deadline. Customers are encouraged to make full payments promptly to avoid any penalties.
In celebration of Customer Service Month, the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) took the opportunity to recognize two valued customers, Takoradi Mall and Mrs. Agnes Mensah a resident of Ntankoful, for their dedication to timely and consistent bill payments.
Management of GWCL, paid a surprise visit to their premises and presented a customized wall clock, a mug and other items to the duo.
Mr Barnier further urged their customers to follow the example of the duo and pay their bill fully and on time to ensure the continuous operation of GWCL.
