Former Ghana midfielder Stephen Appiah has urged Black Stars coaches to make bold decisions despite the repercussions involved.
This comes after Black Stars head coach Otto Addo faced scrutiny recently for his decision to omit captain André Ayew from the team’s June and September international matches.
Appiah appeared before the Parliamentary select committee for Sports on Tuesday as they look to revive the dwindling fortunes of Ghana sports.
The legendary player, who captained Ghana to its first-ever World Cup in 2006, asserted that coaches must stand their grounds when taking decisions, irrespective of the egos of players it bruises.
“As a leader you have to lead. There are certain decisions that is not popular with the players but you have to take them. Now I am not seeing that in the team. Now I am not seeing a captain leading the team. When it happens like that, players will think they can do whatever they want.”
Ghana take on Sudan in their third game of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers next month as they look to secure their first win after a slow start.
