The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) John Dramani Mahama, has pledged to complete the abandoned oil and gas enclave roads projects in Nzema land.
This promise is especially significant given the area’s crucial role in Ghana’s oil industry.
The oil and gas enclave roads project, according to former President Mahama and NDC flagbearer was a plan of the Mills and Mahama administration which did not see fruition when his party lost power in 2016 to the NPP. He says the significant role the enclave plays in Ghana’s oil and gas sector calls for a more deliberate effort to develop it.
He mentioned these during the Journey to Nkroful Nkrumah Fest 2024, which is held to honour Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah in the Ellembelle district of the Western Region.
“I recall that during our tenure in government, Professor Mills pledged to utilize oil revenue to enhance Nzema land’s social and economic infrastructure, given its crucial role in hosting oil infrastructure. We initiated the oil and gas enclave roads project to upgrade the area’s roads, but unfortunately, we didn’t complete it before leaving office.
“To my understanding, the new government abandoned most of those routes and halted the project”.
“However, I assure you that a new NDC government, set to take office in January next year, will revive and prioritize the oil and gas enclave roads project. This will ensure that Nzema land has roads worthy of hosting Ghana’s precious oil assets,” Mr Mahama addressed the concerns raised by the chief of Nkroful, Nana Kwesi Kutua V.
