Mohammed Salisu made an impressive Champions League debut as AS Monaco marked their return to the competition since the 2018/19 season with a vital 2-1 win over Barcelona, who were reduced to 10 men in the early embers of the game.
After dealing with injuries of his own and managing to play a role in Monaco’s Champions League qualification, the 25-year-old defender continued his impressive form, delivering a rock-solid performance on his European debut against the five-time champions.
Despite being his debut, Mohammed Salisu delivered a standout performance against Barcelona’s formidable attack, which has been terrorising opponents in their domestic league.
Despite the challenging task, Mohammed Salisu stood out as the top defender of the match, leading in key statistics by winning the most duels (7) and completing a game-high eight long passes.
Salisu also recorded the highest number of clearances (4) and interceptions (2) during the match.
Monaco’s narrow victory over Barcelona lifted them to 12th place in the league standings.
Now, Mohammed Salisu and his teammates will be hoping to maintain their composure when they face Croatian powerhouse Dinamo Zagreb who are still reeling from a 9-2 thrashing at the hands of Bayern Munich in their opener.
