De Ligt scores first Man United goal in win over Southampton

Matthijs de Ligt opened his Manchester United account as Erik ten Hag’s side secured a crucial 3-0 Premier League win over Southampton.

United, coming off a heavy defeat to Liverpool, survived an early scare when goalkeeper Andre Onana saved a penalty from Cameron Archer.

Minutes later, De Ligt headed in from Bruno Fernandes’ pinpoint cross to put the Red Devils ahead.

Marcus Rashford doubled the lead shortly after with his first goal since March, while substitute Alejandro Garnacho sealed the 3-0 victory in stoppage time after Jack Stephens was sent off for a reckless tackle.
