On Friday, 13th September, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo commissioned the Jamestown Fishing Harbour, in Accra.
The president said this is in fulfillment of a promise he made to the people of Jamestown and Ghana as a whole.
This project, which had been a dream since 1965, now stands as a modern facility that will empower the livelihoods of our hardworking fisherfolk and transform the local economy, he said.
It is a symbol of the commitment of my government to move beyond words and deliver on our promises, he added.
“This new harbour is more than just infrastructure—it is a lifeline for the people of Jamestown. With its state-of-the-art facilities, including a fish market, ice-making plant, cold store, and daycare centre for mothers, it will not only improve the handling and storage of fish but also create jobs and bring dignity to those who sustain their families and communities through fishing.
“This is governance that works for the people, improving lives and empowering future generations,” the president wrote on Facebook after the commissioning.
He added “I am deeply satisfied to see this project completed, particularly as someone who grew up in this area. It is a personal joy to have been able to contribute to the development of Jamestown, a community that holds a special place in my heart. I extend my gratitude to the Ga Mantse and the entire community for their unwavering support and faith in this project.”
