New Barcelona signing David Oduro has given Barcelona fans his word, expressing his eagerness to play for the club.
Oduro was signed from Ghanaian club Accra Lions permanently on a three-year deal and will play for Barcelona B.
Brimming with confidence as he looks forward to playing for the Blaugranas, Oduro said: “They [Barcelona fans] should wait, I’m coming with fire. I won’t disappoint them,” he told Sporty TV.
A move which Oduro has long dreamt of since infancy, the young left-back believes the step up is an opportunity to work his socks off and announce himself to the world.
“My dreams are, when I get there, this is the time for me to work hard. This is not the time for me to sleep. I have to work extra hard to be able to move to the first team; and the aim is to play the first team, Champions League, and then come back to my hometown and play for Ghana,” he added.
Despite moving to London, where he had trial sessions with Chelsea and impressed the coaching staff, the allure of playing for Barcelona was an integral proponent in influencing his final decision.
“I love their style of play. I went there, I witnessed it myself and it’s a good project. I can’t wait to get there and get started “
Being involved with Barça‘s youth side gives the left-back only an outside chance of being called up to the first team.
However, Oduro believes he has the forbearance, just as he did throughout his time in Ghana, to wait for his moment.
“I’ll be very, very, patient because, I’ve been patient all this while, from Accra Lions till date, so I’ll still be patient when I get there,” he said.
Oduro’s dedication, hard work and adeptness, which was echoed by German legend Lothar Matthäus, gives him a competitive edge in Spain.
