Residents of Akrofuom in the Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region have expressed gratitude to the government for implementing the District Roads Improvement Program (DRIP).
Describing it as a game changer, the enthusiastic residents who spoke to the media at the sidelines of a ceremony to outdoor the machines said the DRIP has come at a time where the district have been complaining of the poor nature of their roads resulting in post harvest loses for farmers and affecting businesses.
Speaking of behalf of traditional leaders in the district, Ahenemahene of Akrofuom Nana Asare Bediako said the assembling of such equipment is unprecedented and commended the President for such a bold initiative.
“I believe this initiative is the first of its kind in the country. I wish to thank the President for this initiative and also commend the MP and the DCE for ensuring that the district gets its share of equipment to work on our roads,” he said.
Nana Asare Bediako said traditional leaders in the Akrofuom District will liaise with the Assembly and the committee in charge of supervising the operations of the machines to ensure that they are well maintained and used for their intended purpose.
The Akrofuom district outdoored six road maintenance equipment which included a grader, wheel loader, water bowser, tipper truck, backhoe and a roller.
The Chief Executive of the Akrofuom District, Dr. Maurice Jonas Woode, mentioned that most of the roads in the district have rendered unmotorable becoming a source of worry to political leaders and residents alike.
He said work will begin in earnest to give facelift to the deplorable roads in the community whiles contractors will from October this year, move to site to work on the Akrofuom to Obuasi stretch which has received condemnation from residents due to its poor state.
Dr. Woode called on residents to reward the NPP government with a resounding victory in the 2024 general elections adding that, a lot will be done when the mandate of the government is renewed.
“Our district was birthed by this government after all odds were against us. Since its establishment in 2018, the Assembly has chalked a lot of successes in the area of water and sanitation, electricity, access to telecommunication network, agriculture , education and health infrastructure . We need to reward this government for it’s good works for our district,” the Akrofuom DCE stated.
In an interview with the media, the Member of Parliament for the Akrofuom Constituency, Alexander Blankson, said the bad nature of the roads in the Akrofuom constituency has caused him sleepless nights, stressing that he spends a chunk of his common fund on repairing deplorable roads in the constituency.
He pointed out that his office will make sure the equipment will be used for their intended purpose for the benefit of the constituency.
Some youth of the area who have gone through some period of training on how to operate the equipment were also outdoored.
