After the dust has settled in an enthralling round of fixtures in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers, which saw Ghana play out an insipid 1-1 draw against Niger, 3Sports takes a look at the permutations in Group F ahead of October’s internationals.
Angola sit at the summit
The win against Sudan propelled Pedro Goncalvez and his men to the summit of the table, putting day light between themselves and second place Sudan. Angola have been the brightest of the teams in Group F, and have picked up all available six points in their first two games, leaving the team in a comfortable position to make it out of the group.
Sudan down to second
Coach Kwesi Appiah has guided Sudan to an impressive start in the qualifying rounds, with the team accumulating three points from a possible six, which is good enough for second place.
Prior to the team’s defeat against Angola, they were joint table toppers alongside Angola.
Kwesi Appiah and his Sudanese side will have to outwit the Black Stars in October to make their qualifying dream a reality.
Ghana maintain third spot
Despite a disappointing 1-1 draw with Niger in Morocco, the Black Stars’ position remains unchanged in the standings, as they are still trying to work their way up the table.
The first group loss against Angola means Ghana – together with the 1-1 draw on Monday against Niger – have accumulated just a point from six.
Niger bottom of the pile
Not an ideal start for Niger, similar to the Black Stars, who are struggling for wins so far and have a point from six.
A narrow 1-0 loss to Sudan got the team off to the worst possible start.
A second defeat to Ghana in as many games looked on the cards until Oumar Sako’s scruffy goal gave them something to cheer, with little time to go.
Despite playing away from home in Morocco, they gave a good account of themselves and never looked out of the game.
Head coach Ezzaki Badou will look to draw inspiration from his abundance of experience and qualify the team to their third-ever Africa Cup of Nations tournament.
