Founder of 3Music Network and NDC’s Parliamentary Candidate for Okaikwei Central, Baba Sadiq has finally disclosed his decision to fully be involved in politics.
Baba Sadiq who owns 3Music Network and Full Circle, the company which manages, Olivetheboy has been a prominent figure in the entertainment industry for years especially with his 3Music Awards scheme.
However, Baba Sadiq has now considered to venture into politics fully and is the NDC’s parliamentary candidate for the Okaikwei Central constituency for the 2024 December elections.
Speaking on Showbiz 360 on TV3, Baba Sadiq explained that his decision to join politics stems from his active involvement in community activities in Okaikwei Central and his desire to help the younger generation in his constituency to succeed in life.
According to him, community members and some revered persons advised him to consider being an MP for the constituency since he was already actively involved in developing the community.
As a member of the NDC in the constituency, Sadiq consulted a few party executives who also gave their affirmation for him to go ahead and contest as MP for the area. He said he further sought the blessing of the National Chief Imam and the party’s flagbearer, John Mahama in the build-up to winning the primary.
“It’s a natural progression. It came from me taking active roles in activities in my constituency. It evolved from that. It started from young people coming to me during Salah we intend to go out there so we decided to have something this time around so we can get the people to come here.
“Then it moved to helping them in clean-up exercises, so its been community engagement after the other and then, it became more or less like an advisor of sort to the younger people in the community. Sometimes, it gets to helping them with job placement, helping some of them with career directions and getting actively involved in things,” he told Giovani Caleb on Saturday, September 7.
He continued: “So, because I have also been a member of the NDC party in the constituency and also when they saw me in 2020 campaign when I became the spokesperson for Tourism, Arts and Culture and they saw the campaign I did with his Excellency John Mahama across the country and being at the forefront of politics, I think the call started from there. Almost like, you are our guy, you are already actively involved in developing the community, you should consider this.”
“The advises kept coming in and then gradually consulted with a few of the elders, got the blessing, most importantly the blessing of the Chief Imam and the process started. I won my primary and here I am,” he added.
Speaking about the possibility of winning the seat, he said the constituency usually votes ‘skirt and blouse’, hence the party needs to work extra to secure the seat from the incumbent NPP MP.
“it’s a skirt and blouse situation. There’s a very strong NDC affinity within the constituency but most importantly I think we have to work stronger and so that’s what I am doing now,” Baba Sadiq noted.
