Ghanaian playwright and motivational speaker, Uncle Ebo Whyte has shared his thought on the sharp contrast between the youth of today – the Gen Z’s and the previous generation.
Speaking in a recent interview on Showbiz 360, Uncle Ebo Whyte narrated how social media has influenced the life of today’s youth.
He explained how during his youth, exposure to pornographic content was very rare and contrasted it with the current generation, stating that social media has made easy access to such vices.
“Their life is very different because of social media. The world I grew in, it’s not the world they are growing in. The temptations I had, is not the temptations they have.
“In all my ‘Nkwasiasem’ days, in all my youth, from primary to university, I encountered porn only once, one afternoon in secondary school, when a friend, a mate of mine, brought an old magazine of ‘The Big Brother’ to the class. And even that one, you had to be in his good books before he will allow you.
“Today on our phones. Its there.” he emphasised.
According to him, the youth need guidance from mature minds to help them navigate these challenges and maximise their potential.
“So it’s a different word for them. And I hope that the only way they can maximise their own potential is to ensure that they always have some mature mind speaking to them,” he added.
