An entrepreneur and philanthropist, Joana Gyan Cudjoe, has vowed to unseat the incumbent Member of Parliament for Amenfi Central, Peter Yaw Kwakye-Ackah in the parliamentary primary slated for September 8.
Ms. Cudjoe who won the party’s primary in 2023, but had the results annulled by the party’s Functional Executive Committee due to litigation at the High Court in Sekondi, is hopeful to win the election by over 90 percent votes.
Her victory, she said, will fortify the party’s grass root in the area to help retain the seat for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the December 7 general elections.
The Functional Executive Committee (FEC) of the NDC annulled the Amenfi Central parliamentary primaries conducted on May 13, 2023 and opened nominations on Friday, September 6 for rerun of the elections.
Five aspirants are said to have picked nomination forms at the party’s headquarters in Accra to contest the election scheduled for Sunday September 8.
These aspirants which include the sitting MP, Peter Yaw Kwakye-Ackah and former MP for Amenfi Central, George Kofi Arthur are expected to file and be vetted on Saturday September 7.
Joana Gyan Cudjoe speaking in an interview on Onua FM “Etifi Nsem” expressed optimism in the delegates to reconfirm her candidature to lead the party to retain the seat for NDC.
She touted her achievements in the area and vowed to win the elections despite the limited time for the party to conduct the elections.
”I know my delegates and I strongly believe that decisions taken against me by some party members will somewhat invigorate them to endorse me massively. So, I wasn’t perturbed by the court injunctions Vis-à-vis the decision by FEC to annul the previous results,” she reiterated.
The CEO and Founder of Golden Empire Legacy Ltd told Isaac Ekow J.B (Host of the show) that the rerun presents a renewed opportunity for the party members to come together and build a stronger Amenfi Central.
She indicated that she remains deeply committed to the shared vision of progress, development and called for unity ahead of the December 7 polls to ensure victory for the NDC.
