Black Stars coach Otto Addo has strongly condemned the practice of insulting players, expressing frustration over the normalization of online abuse.
He stressed that such behaviour impacts the team negatively.
While Addo supports constructive criticism, he is firmly against any form of player abuse, insisting that players deserve respect.
The former Ghana international noted that some players, like left-back Baba Rahman, have turned down national team invitations due to past mistreatment.
Rahman, who has been excelling with PAOK in Greece, faced boos and online abuse, leading him to focus solely on club football.

“You can criticise me when I am wrong; when things aren’t going well for the players, you can criticise them too. But what’s wrong is for you or the fans to insult the players,” Addo said.
He added, “They have families, kids, friends, and wives. When they see these insults, it affects them. No player joins the national team on their own; coaches invite them. So, it’s our responsibility to stand against any actions that put players in a negative light.”
Addo made these comments ahead of Ghana’s 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Angola, hoping for a strong start to the new campaign.
