The Convention People’s Party (CPP) has elected Nana Frimpomaa Kumankumah as its presidential candidate for the upcoming December 7 general election.
The elections, held across all sixteen regions, concluded at 3 p.m. The Electoral Commission subsequently declared Nana Frimpomaa Kumankumah as the flagbearer-elect with 763 votes, surpassing her opponent Nana Yaw Frimpong, who received 586 votes. Out of a total of 1,360 votes cast, 11 were rejected.
In her victory speech, Nana Frimpomaa Kumankumah called for unity to ensure success in the 2024 general elections.
“In every election, one person will emerge as the winner, and it is essential for everyone to stand together to ensure unity and cohesion,” she stated. “I thank all who voted for me and even those who did not. My win was decisive and represents the voice of the masses.”
However, her opponent, Nana Yaw Frimpong, who secured 586 votes, refused to congratulate her.
He alleged that the election was marred by vote-buying. “How can I congratulate someone when the election was not free and fair? I have spent three years campaigning across the country, only to see someone who allegedly bought votes win the election. I believe I am the chosen candidate, but the people were influenced to vote against me with payments of 1,000 to 1,200 Cedis,” Frimpong claimed.
In response, Nana Frimpomaa Kumankumah emphasized that her focus is on winning power from the NPP and NDC in the upcoming general elections.
