The Book of Condolence opened at the Ghana International Press Centre in memory of Godwin Avenorgbo will close on Friday, September 6, 2024, at 5pm.
Veteran and renowned international journalist Cameron Doudu today (Wednesday) signed the Book of Condolence, paying glowing tribute to the late Chairman of the GJA 75th Anniversary Planning Committee.
The Grandmaster had led a delegation of the 75th Anniversary Planning Committee and the National Executive to call on Cameron Doudu at his residence last April to invite him to deliver one of the public lectures scheduled for the anniversary.
“I only met Godwin once. But we became immediate buddies. Old time ‘scribes’. And now, he’s gone. Da yie, Godwin. Your golden voice shall ever be in our ears,” he wrote.
Bringing international solemnity to the tribute, Nigerian journalist Joseph Ojumu (Junior) of The Difference and Nigerian Eye newspapers said: “You have finished your journey in the fullness of mass communication par excellence with good hard work, commitment and integrity”.
He said the Grandmaster had paid his dues to his community, nation and the world, adding, “You deserve to have a full rest till we meet again.”
Until the closing date and time, the Book of Condolence in memory of Godwin Avenorgbo remains open, from 8am to 5pm on Thursday and Friday.
Godwin Avenorgbo, a former Director of Radio at the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, died on August 19, 2024, after a sudden illness.
His funeral will be held at the Lashibi Funeral Home in the Tema West Municipality, on September 14, 2024, at 1pm prompt.
The dress code for the funeral is ‘Black and White’.
The GJA will make a bus available at the Ghana International Press Centre (GIPC) on September 14, 2024, to transport members to and from the funeral venue. The bus will depart from the GIPC at 11:30am prompt.

Meanwhile, the National Executive of the GJA has appointed Kobby Asmah, a member of the 75th Anniversary Planning Committee to assume the chairmanship of the committee for the rest of its tenure.
