A supposed staunch member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Essikadu-Ketan Constituency, Apostle Obed Bosomtwi-Sam, is contesting the parliamentary seat as an independent candidate, citing the alleged disrespectful demeanor of the NDC’s parliamentary candidate, Dr. Grace Ayensu-Danquah, as his reason.
In the 2020 parliamentary election, Apostle Obed Bosomtwi-Sam played a pivotal role in the campaign of Dr. Grace Ayensu-Danquah, where she nearly caused what would have been one of the major upsets, considering the political colossus she ran against: Joe Ghartey.
“From the regional to the constituency executives, they know me and can attest to the work I did in the last elections. I worked assiduously to help Dr. Grace Ayensu-Danquah and the party get a record number of votes. Indeed, I can say everything points to the fact that the result was not a reflection of the will of the people in this constituency.”
Announcing his intention to run as an independent candidate, he complained that “all my sleepless nights and other unpleasant encounters on the campaign trail” have, since that election, been met with acts of gross disrespect from “the very person I put my life on the line for.”
“The constituency executives are aware of the behavior of Dr. Grace Ayensu-Danquah and are afraid to point it out. Many people are aware that she has an unpleasant character, and she herself knows that her character is poor.”
According to him, the party is headed for a heavy electoral loss should she continue to disrespect everyone she deals with.
“The NDC will lose the parliamentary election… If you don’t accord the electorate the necessary respect, why should they also give you their mandate…”
Apostle Obed Bosomtwi-Sam called on all constituents, including NDC faithful, to vote for him, promising to uphold the party’s values in Parliament even as an independent candidate.
“I am confident that I will emerge victorious and later, join the NDC MPs in Parliament to support John Dramani Mahama’s government.”
Some of his supporters emphasized that, as a man of God, Apostle Obed Bosomtwi-Sam would serve the constituency with truth and dedication and called on electorate in the constituency to join them.
