The Nkoranza Traditional Council has strongly denied recent reports claiming that they expressed outrage and invoked curses against the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and its flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, following an alleged delay in a scheduled meeting.
According to the reports, which were widely circulated by Ashh FM and other platforms, the council members were said to have been left waiting for Mahama from 9:00 am until around 8:00 pm. The reports claimed that the council members were deeply disappointed by this and were seen in a video invoking curses on anyone who would vote for the NDC in the upcoming 2024 elections.
One elder was quoted in Twi, expressing anger over the situation. However, the Nkoranza Traditional Council has issued an official statement, dated September 4, 2024, refuting these allegations. They categorically denied expressing any such sentiments or engaging in any activities that would involve invoking curses.
The Council emphasized that these claims do not reflect their values or practices and urged the public to disregard the misleading reports. The Council reaffirmed their commitment to fostering dialogue and collaboration with all political parties for the betterment of the Nkoranza community.
They also called for responsible reporting to uphold the integrity of traditional leadership and prevent the spread of false information.
In response to the video, the NDC leadership in the Nkoranza North Constituency has also condemned the circulating footage, describing it as a malicious attempt by some members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to misrepresent the actions of John Mahama and disrupt the party’s relationship with the local traditional authorities.
They claimed that the video shows a sub-chief, reportedly aligned with the NPP Parliamentary Candidate, invoking curses against citizens of Dromankese who plan to vote for the NDC.
The NDC emphasized that their checks revealed that the Odikro (sub-chief) of Dromankese did not authorize or endorse the curses depicted in the video and was fully aware of the planned details of Mahama’s visit.
The party urged its supporters to remain calm and assured them that efforts are being made to engage with the traditional leaders to resolve any misunderstandings.
The Nkoranza Traditional Council’s statement concluded by calling on the public to disregard the false reports and focus on the ongoing efforts to promote unity and cooperation within the community.
