In the wake of a tragic incident where a student was fatally stabbed three times following an argument over whose father is rich, the Executive Secretary of the Boys’ Brigade Ghana, Rev. David Nmlotey Agbloe, has called for a more intentional approach in combating social vices among the youth.
The incident, which has sent shockwaves through the country highlights the urgent need for proactive measures to address the root causes of violence and indiscipline in schools and society at large.
Speaking against the rising acts of indiscipline among young people on 3FM Sunrise Morning Show, Rev. Agbloe told Johnnie Hughes that the rising cases of violence among young people is alarming, emphasizing that such incidents are warning signs to an unsafe society in the future.
“It’s about time we intentionally did certain things to correct these vices. Otherwise, the future of this country will be in danger”, he stated.
He called on schools, parents, religious institutions, and community leaders to work together in creating a safer environment for the youth. “Stakeholders must all come together to fight it [indiscipline in schools] and it must be intentional. There are times we speak about it but on the ground, it’s not working”, he added.
Rev. Agbloe expressed his deep concern over the increasing frequency of such violent acts, noting that “Gone are the days we hardly hear of such acts, but these days, it’s becoming rampant…Over a period, we have been just sleeping off on these practices, and this is where it has landed us,” he lamented.
Emphasizing on the importance of returning to foundational principles and values in addressing these issues, Mr Agbloe stated that we must go back to the basics in addressing this menace. This calls for the need of stronger moral education and community engagement.
The Boys’ Brigade, known for its commitment to youth development and moral education, has pledged to intensify its efforts in mentoring and guiding young people towards positive lifestyles.
As the country mourns the loss of another otherwise promising life, the call for intentional action against social vices serves as a reminder that everyone has a role to play in shaping a safer and more responsible society.
