Enoch Sackey, the father of Edward Sackey, a final-year student of O’Reilly Senior High School who was stabbed three times in the chest has threatened to sue the school over his son’s death.
Edward Sackey, 18, died on Monday, September 2 after he was stabbed by a colleague during an altercation reportedly over whose father was wealthier.
Speaking to Accra-based Citi FM, Enoch Sackey expressed his frustration over the manner in which his son died, stating that the school must be held accountable for the circumstances that led to his son’s untimely death.
“We have to sue the school, we have to hold the school responsible. We want the school authority to come out to explain and tell us, why such a thing would happen in a school premises that the teachers, nobody tried to interfere… they were all unconcerned until my son passed away so we have to sue them that is the intention of the family,” he said.
Final year student of O’Reilly Senior High School allegedly stabbed to death by colleague
Earlier today, the father together with other members of the family clad in red and black besieged the school seeking justice for their son’s death.
Speaking to TV3’s Noble Crosby Annan, he called on the school authorities to speak up and clarify matters on what transpired.
“The school authorities have not said anything from yesterday, the police have not called and even the family of the boy who killed my son has not reached out. We want answers from the school authorities and the parents of the boy. We want justice and want to know what happened,” he told TV3’s reporter Noble Crosby.
An eyewitness and a niece of the deceased who narrated the incident to TV3 accused the school of negligence after the incident had happened.
She said the teachers showed no concern when her cousin was stabbed and was battling for his life.
“When the chaos started my brother run to the teachers who were sitting under the tree in the school compound…I was calling the guy to stop but they didn’t mind me, so I decided to go to my uncle who has a shop outside the school to report to him what was happening since the teachers are not doing anything.
“The guy is not someone he will joke, when he is coming to school, he has this small bag which contains a lot of harmful substances like knife,” she said.
She claimed that even after the stabbing, the teachers were unconcerned about the condition of the victim, and it only took the assistance of a passerby to help her transport the victim to LEKMA hospital.
“No teacher followed us. I went to the hospital alone and his father came around. It was one man passing by who helped me. It took about twenty to thirty minutes to take him to the hospital.
“When my uncle father came, they told him he’s gone because he was stabbed in the chest,” she stated.
Meanwhile, the Greater Accra Regional Education Director says investigations have commenced into the incident and confirmed the attacker has been arrested.
