FC Basel defender Jonas Adjetey Adjei has been called up to replace the injured Alexander Djiku in Ghana’s squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Djiku suffered a thigh injury during a league match for Fenerbahce on Friday, leading coach Otto Addo to bring in Adjetey as his replacement.
At just 20 years old, Adjetey is set to make his debut for the Black Stars. He’s been making waves in the Swiss Super League with FC Basel, where he’s featured in all six games this season.
Adjetey’s football journey began at Teshie Football Academy, and he has since played for Accra Great Olympics and Berekum Chelsea before joining Basel.
He will join the national team on Monday to prepare for the upcoming qualifiers.
Ghana will face Angola at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on September 5 and then head to Berkane, Morocco, to take on Niger on September 9.
