Arsenal were unceremoniously held at home by Brighton and Hove Albion in Saturday’s launch time kick off at the Emirates Stadium, despite making a blistering start to the 2024-25 campaign and going a man down.
Kai Havertz teamed up with Bukayo Saka to fire Arsenal ahead seven minutes before the break.
However, a red card for Declan Rice took the wind out of the Gunners’ sails. The former West Ham man was shown a second yellow card by referee Chris Kavanagh for kicking the ball out after a Brighton infringement.
The numerical advantage played into Brighton’s hands and leveled two minutes before the hour mark through Joao Pedro.
A second bite at the cherry meant Pedro was able to prod in a rebound from close range after Raya repelled Brighton’s first attempt.
Pedro’s goal, which was the last of the contest, was the first goal Mikel Arteta’s side have let in since the last day of the 2023-24 season.
The spoils was shared at the end of the game, with both teams preserving their unbeaten starts to the campaign.
Arsenal square off against fierce North London rivals Tottenham Hotspurs after the international break while Brighton welcome newcomers Ipswich to the Ammex.
