As the clock ticked on deadline day, so were contract opportunities up for grabs.
3Sports looks at some Ghanaians who were involved in the bustling deadline day’s activities.
Salis Samed, Sunderland
The RC Lens midfielder joined the Black Cats on a season long loan after being culled from Lens’ main squad. Samed was training with the reserves of Lens, leaving him out of the team’s matchday squads for the 2024-25 Ligue 1 season thus far.
Montpellier expressed strong interest in the midfielder, but it was Sunderland who offered the Ghanaian an escape route.
Felix Afena Gyan, Juventus
Afena Gyan has gone under the radar in the last few seasons, with his departure from Roma to Cremonese prior to the 2022-23 season being seen as backward step in his career.
However, Afena Gyan is bidding to revive his career once more and has been offered to Juventus on a season long loan, although his role remains unclear; if he will play in the main squad or not.
Afena Gyan is expected to feature for Juventus’ youth sides.
David Oduro, Barca B
News of a footballer leaving Ghana to play for Barcelona broke the internet back home. Clarity was quickly given on the situation, with the 18- year-old left back joining Barcelona’s La Masia from Accra Lions after impressing on trials.
After trials in Europe, including auditioning at Chelsea and Barcelona, the Alphonso Davies-like left back has signed a three year deal with Barcelona, keeping him until 2027.
Kasim Adams, Servette
The imposing center back may have walked into an European-challenging Servette squad, but it was not to be. Servette’s 3-2 aggregate loss to Chelsea in the Europa Conference league qualifier on Thursday meant, the Ghanaian — who returns to Switzerland after formerly playing for Young Boys — will have to make do with domestic competitions.
Adams joined Servette as a free agent after leaving Hoffenheim.
Ernest Nuamah, Olympique Lyon
Although keeping his status as an Olympique Lyonnais player, Nuamah was on the cusp of moving to Fulham. An imminent transfer was expected, as per Fabrizio Romano, until the deal fell through as Fulham went in for Arsenal’s Reiss Nelson.
Numah’s departure from Lyon in January has not been ruled out, as teams continually enquire about him
