The 58-year-old German was selected after unsuccessful negotiations with Janne Andersson and Herve Renard.
While a formal contract has not yet been signed, Labbadia is expected to lead Nigeria in their upcoming Nations Cup qualifiers against Benin and Rwanda.
Gustavo Poyet, Aitor Karanka, and Fabio Cannavaro were also considered for the position but ultimately, Labbadia was chosen by the NFF.
His first matches will be against Benin and Rwanda in the AFCON qualifiers. Nigeria, runners-up in the 2023 edition held in Ivory Coast earlier this year, will be aiming to qualify for next year’s tournament in Morocco with hopes of clinching the title.
