Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has revealed what he asked from shareholder Sir Jim Ratcliffe before committing his future to the club earlier this month.
Although there were rumours about a possible exit away from Old Trafford, the midfielder cut off every doubt surrounding his future when he signed a new deal earlier this month.
Speaking to Manutd.com, the midfielder has revealed that he demanded more recruitment to help strengthen Manchester United to enable them to compete with the very best teams.
“The club know that I want to compete with the best teams. They knew that we needed to improve the team. And I think that we’re doing that,” he said.
The captain however was quick to lay down his expectations for the future.
“I don’t need you to promise me that we’re going to win the league,’ because no one can promise that. But at least that we will have a team to compete and be competitive throughout the season, to try to achieve silverware and to compete at the highest levels,” he added.
United have been criticised in the past for their approach in the transfer market, but Bruno Fernandes would hope his demands are taken into consideration.
The club started their new campaign with a home win over Fulham last Friday.
