President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has said that the efforts of his government in job creation have been fruitful.
He says initiatives like the Ghana Jobs and Skills Project and the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) have provided employment opportunities for over 700,000 young Ghanaians since 2017.
He said this on Tuesday, 20th August 2024, when he delivered the keynote address at the 12th Quadrennial Delegates Congress of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) at the Pentecost Convention Centre in Gomoa Fetteh, Central Region.
This event was a significant moment as we reflected on the remarkable contributions of the TUC in fostering industrial peace and harmony within our labour sector.
President Akufo-Addo also said that over the past seven years, his government has worked closely with Organized Labour to resolve industrial disputes amicably, ensuring a stable environment that supports economic growth and job creation.
“In my address, I highlighted my government’s commitment to enhancing the welfare of workers and pensioners across the nation. Notably, we have made substantial improvements to the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) scheme, including a 25% increase in pensions in 2023—the highest since the introduction of the contributory Three-Tier Pension Scheme. This demonstrates our dedication to ensuring that our senior citizens are well supported in their retirement.
“Additionally, the growth of pension assets, which have increased by over 350% from GH¢15.7 billion in 2016 to GH¢71.69 billion in 2024, is a testament to our commitment to safeguarding the future of all Ghanaians,” he wrote on Facebook after the event.
