The bustling twin cities of Second-Takoradi came to a standstill on Sunday as the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), spearheaded by its flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, launched its manifesto for the upcoming December 2024 elections.
The event drew tens of thousands of fervent supporters, who gathered to witness Dr. Bawumia’s presentation of the party’s strategic plan for Ghana’s transformation.
Accompanied by his running mate, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, and senior party figures including President Akufo-Addo, Dr. Bawumia introduced a manifesto he described as one of “hope with bold solutions.”
In his address, Dr. Bawumia emphasized the need for innovative solutions to Ghana’s current challenges. “Ghana needs bold solutions to address the issues we face, and that is what I am offering as I seek the mandate of the people,” he stated.
The manifesto, focused on job creation and business development, proposes a range of measures designed to bolster the private sector. These include a revised tax regime, significant reductions in import duties, and the removal of controversial taxes such as the e-levy. Dr. Bawumia also outlined plans to train approximately one million young Ghanaians in coding and other tech skills, aiming to enhance digital literacy and job opportunities both locally and internationally.
“This Manifesto lays out our comprehensive plan to advance Ghana’s growth and prosperity, with a focus on creating jobs and supporting businesses,” Dr. Bawumia said. “It also includes initiatives to fully digitize public services and expand private sector investment in infrastructure.”
In terms of governance, Dr. Bawumia committed to a streamlined administration, promising to limit the number of ministers to 50 and amend the fiscal responsibility act to enforce stricter compliance.
His vision encompasses reforms across various sectors, including agriculture, health, education, and tourism. Dr. Bawumia pledged to foster an inclusive approach that transcends political, ethnic, and religious boundaries, aiming to harness the nation’s collective resources for a prosperous future.
“My goal is to build a country where every Ghanaian can achieve their potential, ensuring sustainable employment and embracing the fourth industrial revolution through advanced systems and data,” he concluded.
