Arnold Asamoah-Baidoo, Board Chair of the Ghana Music Awards-USA (GMA-USA), has dismissed claims that his personal sentiment towards Shatta Wale would influence his decision to award the artiste if he deserves it.
In an interview with Nana Kwame Gyan on Onua 95.1 FM’s show, ‘The30minutes’, Asamoah-Baidoo described such assertions as “unwise and ignorant”.
Asamoah-Baidoo emphasized that he has no personal issues or feud with Shatta Wale, and his primary focus as a Board Chair is promoting and recognizing excellence in Ghanaian music.
He maintained that his role as Board Chair is to uphold the integrity and credibility of the awards, and he would not allow personal biases to cloud his judgment.
“I don’t have any personal issue with Shatta Wale and I am not sure Wale has also said he has any personal issues with me. I am a professional with a mandate to work and I must stick with that mandate.
“I’m only a Board Chairman presiding over highly educated individuals, how I’m I going to tell them not to give Shatta Wale award if he deserves because I have some perceived personal sentiments,” he stated.
Asamoah-Baidoo’s comments come amidst speculation and controversy surrounding the Ghana Music Awards-USA.
His statement aims to reassure the public and the music industry that the awards will be given based on merit, and not influenced by personal relationships or sentiments.
