Gabby Thomas of the United States clinched the gold medal in the women’s 200m race on Tuesday, finishing with a time of 21.83 seconds.
Thomas, who won bronze in the event at the Tokyo Olympics, secured a decisive victory with her impressive sprint to the finish.
Julien Alfred of Saint Lucia, the gold medalist in the women’s 100m in Paris, took the silver medal with a time of 22.08 seconds. Brittany Brown, also from the United States, earned the bronze with a time of 22.20 seconds.
Thomas, 27, has a remarkable background. She graduated from Harvard with a degree in neurobiology and global health and earned her master’s degree in sleep epidemiology from the University of Texas last year.
Thomas and Alfred were the top favourites going into the race, and they delivered outstanding performances, with Thomas emerging as the clear winner.
