The Independent Power Generators, Ghana has appealed to the Minister of Finance to expedite the disbursement of funds owed the Independent Power Producers (IPPs).
He urged the Ministry to treat the payment of funds to the IPPs as “a matter of priority”.
In a statement on August 5, the CEO of the IPPs, Dr. Elikplim Kwabla Apetorgbor the delay in releasing the funds has significantly hindered the conclusion of the “already prolonged re-negotiations with the IPPs regarding the settlement of legacy arrears.”
“Despite your announcement of the IMF cash release over a month ago, there has been no demonstrable commitment or action taken towards disbursing these funds to the IPPs. Your continuous delay is becoming unbearable and frustrating,” the statement noted.
Dr. Elikplim Kwabla Apetorgbor stressed that it is imperative for the Ministry to resolve these financial obligations promptly to ensure a stable and reliable power supply.
He further emphasised that the continuity and stability of power supply in the country depend on this crucial step.
“The timely disbursement of the funds is crucial to maintaining the trust and cooperation of the IPPs, Take immediate action to honor the debt and facilitate the conclusion of negotiations with the IPPs,” he added.
