Ghana has recently been engulfed in fervent national discourse centered on the deteriorating state of governance and democratic principles within its borders.
It is an open secret that the cost of living is spiralling out of control while corruption is a pernicious cancer eating away at the nation’s fabric.
Inspired by the recent Gen Z-led protests in Kenya, which compelled President Ruto to rescind the contentious Finance Bill 2024 and dismiss cabinet members, Ghanaian youth are now at the vanguard of demanding accountability and transparency.
These young activists are united in their opposition to exorbitant taxation that exacerbates the already dire cost of living crisis amidst crippling unemployment.
Despite facing resistance from law enforcement, they persist in their struggle for the right to peacefully protest against these pressing issues.
But first it’s important to know how the protests in Kenya started and how they scaled to a full blown revolution.
Take Prophet Elvis Mbonye, revered prophet from Uganda, who gave a stern prophetic warning to leaders of the nation of Kenya on 24th October 2023. The stark message highlighted the consequences of foolish decisions they made which would plunge Kenya into darkness.
He castigated the proposal of implementation of the Religious Regulation Bill which was inspired by the deception of darkness thus inviting catastrophic disasters in the form of unprecedented heavy rain and flooding.
Three months later, devastating floods ravaged Kenya. The rains, meant for a season, fell in a single day.
Hundreds of thousands were displaced, hundreds died, and infrastructure crumbled. Despite broadcasted warnings, leaders downplayed the prophecy, blaming climate change. This raises a critical question: why ignore a proven prophet’s clear warning?
Consequently, his recent pronouncement during the 7th May 2024 fellowship, bore worrisome revelations. Despite his deep love for Kenya, he warned that a divinely inspired prophecy could not be ignored, and its fulfilment was imminent.
He spoke of plagues similar to those that ravaged Egypt, poised to strike down Kenya’s most powerful leaders who clung to earthly solutions while ignoring God’s wisdom. Yet, a glimmer of hope rising in the horizon set to pierce the darkness – a global awakening would soon begin to spread.
The unrest and awakening he alluded to was the eruption of Gen Z’s anti-government protests. Public fury had reached a boiling point, leading to the ousting of numerous leaders and the destruction of property by enraged citizens seeking retribution.
Needless to say, one can’t ignore God’s pronouncements without facing the consequences, and that’s exactly what’s happening to the Kenyan leaders. They scoffed at the prophetic voice, a man with a proven track record of fulfilled prophecies.
Now, the chickens have come home to roost. They’re left scrambling to pick up the pieces of the mess they created.
The revolution is definitely far from over. Even now as Ghana seeks transformation and change it so dearly needs, we should not forget the importance of seeking God’s guidance through his chosen vessels. Only then can we ensure wise leadership and avoid repeating boiling ourselves in the same bitter brew.
