A second lawsuit has been filed against the appointment of COP Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno as the Deputy Inspector-General of Police.
In a writ filed at the High Court on Thursday, August 1, the plaintiff Emmanuel Felix Mantey is seeking a court order prohibiting COP Mr Christian Tetteh Yohuno from acting or purporting to act in the role of Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Operations.
He is also is praying for an “Order of judicial review for the following reliefs: a. An order of prohibition restraining COP Mr Christian Tetteh Yohuno from acting or purporting to act in the role of Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Operations.
“An order of prohibition restraining the Respondents from carrying out any actions in furtherance of the appointment of COP Mr Christian Tetteh Yohuno as ‘Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Operations.”

The first suit against the appointment was filed by private legal practitioner Justice Abdulai.
Abdulai sued the Attorney General (AG) and the Ghana Police Service (GPS) after arguing that the appointment of COP Yohuno was “unconstitutional, null and void.”
He is also seeking an “order restraining COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno from acting or purporting to act as Deputy Inspector-General of Police in Charge of Operations.
“A further order restraining the Inspector General of Police or any command under him from accepting, relating to and/or issuing instructions or commands to COP Mr Christian Tetteh Yohuno in his assumed capacity as Deputy Inspector-General of Police in Charge of Operation.”
The appointment of COP Yohunu was announced in a press statement released by the Director of Communications at the Presidency Mr Eugene Arhin on Wednesday, July 17.
“This appointment is pursuant to the advice of the Police Council at its meeting held today, Wednesday, 17th July 2024, during which COP Yohuno’s exceptional credentials and dedication to duty were acknowledged,” the statement said.
It added that COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno is a distinguished law enforcement officer, with a career spanning over three decades, and has held various key positions within the Ghana Police Service.

Yohuno on his well-deserved appointment, and wishes him the very best in the discharge of his duties,” the statement said.
