The December 7 polls will be a contest of ideas and solutions to Ghana’s development challenges among political parties.
But for voters of Kwahu Afram Plains North constituency, prevailing economic crisis and provision of social amenities will inform their choice of a leader on the election day.
The constituency is among the under developed areas in the Eastern Region surrounded by the Volta Lake with many scattered Islands.
It has Donkorkrom as its capital and the vast availability of the Lake resources present fishing opportunities to the inhabitants aside farming.
In the previous elections, the constituency played host to a total of 41,765 voter population.
However, the constituency is highly rated among the very deprived and underdeveloped areas in the Eastern region.
Social amenities and infrastructure needed to improve the lives of the constituents are non-existent periodically sparking agitations among constituents.
Inner feeder roads connecting the district capital to adjoining communities are in very deplorable states. The poor state of another road linking Kwahu Afram Plains North and South constituencies has been the contention of constituents and headache to the commuters.
Electorates say their vote in the December 7 polls will be informed by the state of road infrastructure in the constituency.
Riders of motorized tricycles which is the reliable form of intra-commuting in the area are forced to impose exorbitant charges on passengers following the difficulty in plying roads there.
Cost of living is also high in this part of the country even though the area remains one of the food baskets of the country.
The situation is even worse in the Island communities. Electorates at Madagascar one of the islands are concerned about the continuous neglect by politicians.
Construction of its school infrastructure has been abandoned while other social amenities are lacked. Voters on this island are eager to partake in the December 7 polls but they insist that the quality of their lives will inform their votes on the election-day.
The Kwahu Afram Plains North constituency has been the strong hold of the opposition national democratic congress since the commencement of the fourth republic.
The New Patriotic Party is seeking to win the seat in the December elections but this will require lot of work to make this happen because the electorates claimed not to have benefitted from the government.
Ahead of the December polls, the National Democratic Congress is maintaining the incumbent MP Betty Krosby Mensah on the ballot, while the New Patriotic Party is presenting Mr. Anim Asiamah.
A third parliamentary aspirant, Kpeli Worlase is contesting as an independent candidate in the constituency.
Kpeli Worlase was a card bearing member of the National Democratic Congress who broke away from the party due to unresolved internal wrangling in the constituency. He has since been suspended indefinitely from the party.
