Management of Korle Bu Teaching Hospital is expected to secure $5 million from its suppliers to build an endoscopy unit.
The unit is expected to augment the existing health facilities of the hospital.
The Management of the Hospital recounted gaps in clinical and surgical services, which it says, has affected health care delivery.
“We want to put up a new endoscopy unit and a day care unit which will cost about five million dollars, and the day care center is going to cost about 700, 000 dollars,” the Chief Executive of the Hospital, Dr Opoku Ampomah disclosed.
Sometimes, these suppliers have complained about delays in re-imbursement after medical supplies have been provided.
Dr Opoku Ampomah expressed concern about the delays but assured of an improved system to ensure prompt payment.
“As a government entity, you do not pay most of the services in advance. You have a ninety-day period within which you are to pay. So, ours is to make sure that we are meeting our obligations. If there are any difficulties or any challenges, what I believe in is prompt communication to explain to them so that we are able to go through any challenges together,” he said.
He added that, “Over the last few years in terms of our payments, our status has improved, but we believe that we are not there yet. We need to work to make sure that we improve on some of these things”.
“One thing is trying to improve our internal process so when you supply to us you don’t have to physically come and follow up on your payments,” Dr Opoku Ampomah stated.
Meanwhile the hospital has initiated steps to build a 24-hour pharmacy.
