Dr. Elvis Banoemuleng Botah, a chartered management consultant and researcher, has asserted that the excessive politicization of key sectors in Ghana is undermining the country’s development progress.
Dr. Botah observed that Africa’s continuing underdevelopment “has to do with nothing but the cheap, useless and frivolous politicization of every single critical sector of our economy.”
He said this while delivering a keynote address at the official launch of the Association of Professional Development Communicators (APDC) – Ghana in Accra on Friday, July 5.
In his address, Dr. Botah lamented how political considerations outweigh merit in many spheres.
According to him, partisan affiliations now determine access to opportunities and resources rather than skills and qualifications.
“It is who you know, and it is which politician knows you. Your promotion at work is predicated on which politician likes you or which political party you are affiliated to,” Dr. Botah stated.
The researcher warned that this level of politicization poses a major hindrance to real development.
“Until we make a monumental move from the overall politicization of critical development sectors, then we can only expect a whooping and deplorable gap in our development efforts,” he noted.
Dr. Botah stressed the need for more sustainable and resilient frameworks that prioritize long-term development over short-term political gains.
