A leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Dr Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe has expressed shock at President Akufo-Addo’s for his silence on Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh’s (NAPO) comment of comparing the contribution of Dr Kwame Nkrumah to Ghana’s development with that of President Akufo-Addo.
Speaking in an interview with Johnny Hughes on Sunrise on 3FM on July 11, Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe described Dr Prempeh’s comment as uncalled for.
He noted that President Akufo-Addo should have by now condemned NAPO’s comment.
“That is why I say it is unfortunate. It has totally destroyed our party. I am surprised Akufo-Addo has not come out to condemn it or at least advise the running mate to Bawumia to come out with a sensible explanation of why he said that,” Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe said.
The NPP stalwart suggested that Dr Bawumia should ask Dr Opoku Prempeh to apologise.
“If my running mate makes such a statement there are two things I will do. I will ask him to apologise, and if he fails to do so, I will ask him to resign. If he does not resign, I will resign,” he asserted.
It would be recalled that on July 9, the newly unveiled running mate to the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh said that no president in the history of Ghana has helped to develop the country more than President Akufo-Addo.
According to Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s running mate, since taking over the presidency of Ghana, President Akufo-Addo has steered affairs of the country to the admiration of all.
“I can boldly say that if the history of Ghana is told from 1957, we have never had a president that has helped Ghana more than Nana Akufo-Addo. I mean from 1957, even including your Kwame Nkrumah, none of them has protected Ghana and developed the country more than Nana Akufo-Addo,” he said in Twi at his official unveiling event at the Jubilee Park in Kumasi on July 9, 2024.
