Ghana Premier League champions FC Samartex 1996 are set to take on Cameroonian club Victoria United in the preliminary round of the 2024/25 CAF Champions League.
The draw ceremony occurred at the CAF headquarters in Cairo, Egypt, on Thursday, July 11, 2024.
Samartex will play their home leg at the Accra Sports Stadium, chosen as their venue for the competition.
The Ghanaians will travel for the first leg on the weekend of August 16-18, before returning home for the second leg at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The preliminary round is scheduled for August, with the winner advancing to face either ASGNN of Niger or Moroccan giants Raja Club Athletic in the second round in September.
This marks Samartex’s maiden appearance in the competition following their historic league title win. The club clinched the Ghana Premier League for the first time in their history, having reached the top-flight league only a season ago. The Nsenkyire Sports Arena became a fortress for them, winning all but one match at their home ground.
Victoria United also won their maiden Elite One title last season, having returned to the top-flight league only last season to achieve this feat.
The winner of the tie will join other winners in the play-offs with CAF Confederation Cup losers for a place in the group stage.
Samartex are eager to make a positive impact in their debut Champions League campaign. The club aims to secure a favorable result in the first leg before traveling to Cameroon for the second leg.
The Ghanaian champions are determined to make their mark on the African stage, and the upcoming clash with Victoria United will be a significant step in their journey.
