Black Stars coach Otto Addo has stressed the importance of maintaining focus and caution ahead of their crucial World Cup qualifier against the Central African Republic (CAR).
Following Ghana’s first victory in eight games against Mali, the team’s attention has swiftly shifted to their upcoming fixture against CAR on Monday evening at the Baba Yara Stadium.
Despite the unexpected win over the Eagles on Thursday, which has raised hopes among fans, many consider CAR to be a relatively weaker opponent. However, Addo is not taking the task lightly.
“One thing is for sure, it’s going to be a very difficult game. For everyone who thinks it’s going to be easy, we hope it goes like that, but it’s really a difficult game. We can’t relax now,” Addo told the media on Sunday evening.
The coach who was grateful to the fans of Kumasi, is calling for extra support in the pivotal fixture.
“I was really overwhelmed the last time we came here, to be honest we I didn’t expect that especially looking at our performance in Afcon and yet they cheered us up in numbers, it’s the reason why I love Kumasi fans. I love coming here, we need their support from the star to the end of the game”
Ghana previously secured a 2-1 victory over the Wild Beasts to qualify for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, and they aim to replicate that result on Monday.
Meanwhile, CAR is also in high spirits, having secured their first win of the qualifying series a few days ago against Chad.
Madagascar currently lead Group I with six points, followed by Comoros and Ghana, who are tied with the same points. A win for Ghana will see them move to the top of the group for the first time as they chase their fifth World Cup appearance.
