According to former Auditor-General Daniel Yao Domelevo, the petition by Martin Amidu seeking the removal of Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng from office has created an opportunity for people who want Mr Agyebeng to expedite the processes to oust him.
In a petition to President Akufo-Addo dated April 30, the former Special Prosecutor and anti-graft campaigner cited, among other things, violations of procurement breaches, abuse of other citizens’ rights, abuse of judges and administration of justice as grounds for the removal of Mr. Agyebeng, who succeeded him.
On May 6, President Akufo-Addo forwarded the petition to Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo for the process to continue.
Also, Chief Justice Torkornoo has written to the Special Prosecutor to provide his comments on the petition that has been filed by his predecessor, Martin Amidu for his removal.
In a letter to Mr. Agyebeng dated Thursday, May 16, the Chief Justice requested his comments to help her ascertain if a prima facie case has been established.
“This is to forward to you a copy of the petition dated 30th April 2024 sent to the Office of the President which was forwarded to the Office of the Honourable Lady Chief Justice on 6th May 2024. Kindly provide your comments on the matters raised to enable the Honourable Chief Justice to determine if a prima facie case has been made out.”
However, the former Auditor-General expressed dissatisfaction about what the Special Prosecutor is going through, describing the pace at which the petition has travelled so far as “neck-breaking speed”.
“This selective way of administration justice is not helping the country, I am surprised with the conveyor belt’s neck-breaking speed in forirng the petition,” he said
Mr Domelevo, however, raised reservations about the actions of Mr. Amidu.
Speaking to Alfred Ocansey, host of The Key Points on Saturday, May 18, Mr. Domelevo observed that despite Mr. Amidu’s constitutional right to petition the President on any subject, “if I were in his position, I will not participate in doing anything to remove my successor from office.”

“Everyone including honourable Martin Amidu should know that Kissi Agyabeng being at the forefront of fighting corruption will not be the favourite one at the office of the president so he just walked into a trap or created a favourable environment for the office of the president to expedite action.
“Otherwise, more serious allegations were made against other people and the presidency has not found it right to forward such allegations or petitions to the Chief Justice,” he argued.
He added that such a selective approach to administering justice does not bode well for the country.
“I particularly find the new development very unfortunate,” he stated.
