The Alliance for Social Equity and Public Accountability (ASEPA) is demanding clarity on the relationship between the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) and Sentuo Oil Refinery.
The Alliance wants Managements of the two refineries to make it clear to the public, if the state-owned refinery has been sold to Sentuo, the Chinese-owned company.
ASEPA’s request stems from an alleged sale of TOR to Sentuo Oil Refinery.
A Monday, April 08, 2024 statement signed by the Executive Director of ASEPA, Mensah Thompson, revealed that an April 04 whistle-blower alert received from a TOR insider said a meeting was ongoing between management of the two oil refineries.
It noted that the meeting was alleged to have discussed the sale of TOR to Sentuo, the reason they want clarification on what actually ensued at the said meeting.
“The meeting we were informed lasted from 10 am to 1 pm at the premises of the TOR after which there was a large celebration at Sentuo Oil Refinery Ltd to celebrate the outcome of the supposed meeting. The said meeting till now has not been reported in the media neither has Tema Oil Refinery issued an official statement on the matter,” part of the statement said.
The Alliance has therefore disclosed its intentions of seeking the details of the said meeting and the relationship between the two entities by invoking the Right to Information Law to compel both TOR and Sentuo Oil Refinery to make public what is going on.
“The RTI request would also demand from the Management of TOR to disclose to the general public the content of the April 4th meeting between both parties and what the ramifications are for the future of TOR,” it added.
