GRIDCo trying to take itself out of what is happening in the power sector – ACEP Boss

The Executive Director of the Africa Center for Energy Policy (ACEP), Ben Boakye, has said that the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) is trying to insulate itself from blame relative to the challenges in the power sector.

He said this while commenting on the letter that GRIDCo wrote to the Minister of Energy, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, highlighting their concerns against the failure of the Electcirty Company ofGhana ( ECG) to provide the load-shedding management timetable by following the instructions issued by the National System Control Center (NSCC).

Mr Boakye told journalists that “GRIDCo is aware of the generational gap in the power sector and all other stakeholders are aware of the challenges affecting the sector so the letter to the Energy Minister is to officially take itself out of what is happening in the sector because the gas to generate the power is not enough.”

Ben Boakye also expressed concerns about the potential implication the current power challenges will have on the revenue capabilities of the ECG.

“Burkinabe authorities communicated recently about the power challenges to their people and said they are considering getting a power plant which will be a shoot in our foot,” he told Accra-based Citi FM.
