Actress Martha Ankomah is not ready to withdraw her defamation suit against colleague actor Kwadwo Nkansah popularly known as LilWin.
Last month, the Ghanaian actress sued LilWin over concerns that the latter made derogatory remarks about her.
Speaking in an interview with Accra based UTV, Martha said the case has not been withdrawn from court stressing that she expects the court to take action against LilWin.
“I have not withdrawn the suit, I believe the rule of law works in this country. So I don’t think you can insult anyone and go scot-free. If we say we are role models, people must learn from us so we have to set good examples. So, I took it to court. Please it’s not a joke because it takes years to build a brand.
Martha Ankomah sues LilWin over recent comment against her personality
“If the court doesn’t teach him a lesson, it will be a very bad example that may encourage the next generation to just say anything about people” she added.
The actress has filed a defamation suit against LilWin for what she describes as disparaging comment against her personality.
Martha Ankomah is thus seeking damages to the tune of five million Ghana cedis from LilWin for the defamatory statements.
LilWin in response to the suit posted a video on his Instagram page to emphasise that being sued does not make one guilty of the alleged offence.
“As the final arbiter of the law, the Court is charged with ensuring the Ghanaian people the promise of equal justice under the law and, thereby, also functions as guardian and interpreter of the Constitution. Movie is my Life. Long live Ghana Movie. Thus me #Lilwin #wezzyempire,” the caption read.
What caused the suit?
Martha Ankomah in an interview on Accra FM last year passed a comment about the decline of quality in Kumawood movies.
She said “I love their storylines and they used to have really good movies like Kumasi Yonkuo, but of late, most of their movies portray witchcraft and that does not motivate me to shoot with them.”
However, LilWin did not take the comment lightly. In a TikTok live session, the actor criticised her fellow actress for the comment she made.
“Martha, those who are richer than you are rather humble and respect themselves a lot. Do you honestly call yourself a star? Who knows you? What do you have?
“I don’t even know why GTP bypassed the likes of McBrown, Mercy Asiedu and co, and made Martha Ankomah their brand ambassador. The likes of Van Vicker, Roselyn Ngissah and co, do not do these things. They even work with us. They shoot Kumawood movies. I’m still amazed that you made such statements, were you drunk?” LilWin stated.
