Hearts of Oak have experienced a positive run of form, going undefeated in their last five matches – winning three and drawing two. Despite this success, coach Aboubakar Ouattara does not believe his primary focus should be on winning this season’s Ghana Premier League.
In an interview with Akoma FM after their 2-1 victory against Heart of Lions in Kumasi on March 18, Ouattara attributed the team’s improved performance to hard work and strategic planning rather than any magical formula.
He noted that they had consistently sought opportunities to exploit errors made by their opponents.
Ouattara expressed gratitude towards both the fans and players for their continued support and adaptability to his coaching style. “A special thank you to the players for accepting the project in good faith, and to the fans who consistently turn out in large numbers to support us,” he said.
Despite the encouraging results, Ouattara emphasised that the team’s priority is not to win the league championship immediately. Instead, they are focusing on improving individual performances and building a stronger foundation for future competitions. While he cannot guarantee the supporters the league title, he believes that this approach is essential for long-term success.
Currently, Hearts of Oak hold the seventh position on the table with 32 points. The last time the club secured the league trophy was during the 2020/21 season under the leadership of former coach Samuel Boadu.
