Amidst mounting frustrations and financial hardships faced by National Service Scheme (NSS) personnel across the country due to delayed allowances, Hamidu Apandago Mahamadu voiced concerns over the recurrent issue plaguing service personnel across the country.
Hamidu Apandago Mahamadu, the esteemed President of Tema Metro’s National Service Personnel Association (NASPA), articulated the growing apprehensions among service personnel regarding the irregular payment of their stipends.
“The recurrent delays in the disbursement of allowances have raised serious questions about the reliability and efficiency of the NSS administrative processes,” Mahamadu lamented.
He emphasized the need for a more holistic approach to tackle the issue, stating, “We want it to be looked at holistically, so that if we can resolve this once and for all.”
He said this in an interview with Johnnie Hughes on the 3FM Sunrise Morning Show today [Friday, March 15].
Mahamadu underscored the financial strain experienced by service personnel, highlighting instances where executives had to extend personal financial assistance to alleviate the plight of their fellow colleagues.
“A lot of pressure, you know, sometimes, we the executives will have to even send momo to our personnel, although we don’t have, you know after listening to some of your people complain in fact you are left with no choice than to even give the last coin you have to them.
“This people are forced to go to work, if you don’t go your supervisors will take you on, and you go to work for a whole five months and you are not being paid, it’s so pathetic and here is the case we also have a deals that the wind is best to us and meanwhile we are taking on project,” he remarked, reflecting the altruistic spirit prevailing amidst the adversity.
Adding weight to the discussion, Armstrong Essah, Director of Corporate Affairs at NSS, acknowledged the severity of the situation.

“The delayed payment of allowances not only undermines the morale of our dedicated service personnel but also poses significant challenges to their financial stability,” Essah affirmed.
He reiterated NSS’s commitment to addressing the issue promptly and assured stakeholders of ongoing engagements with NASPA leadership to find viable solutions.
“Management of the National Service Scheme has been in constant dialogue with NASPA to address the concerns raised by service personnel,” Essah revealed. He expressed optimism that collaborative efforts would yield tangible results in the near future, assuaging the anxieties of NSS personnel nationwide.
The delayed payment of NSS allowances has not only elicited widespread discontent among service personnel but has also drawn attention to broader systemic inefficiencies within the NSS.
As the clamor for immediate action grows louder, stakeholders remain steadfast in their resolve to ensure that the rights and welfare of NSS personnel are safeguarded with the utmost diligence and urgency.
