Founder and convenor of Alliance For Women in Media Africa (AWMA), Shamima Muslim has pointed out that there is a renaissance within the Muslim community and that has caught up with the Muslim woman with regard to education.
According to her, the educational and professional development outcomes for the Muslim woman were at the barest minimum in the past but it is not so anymore because there is more recognition for the importance of education, especially for the girlchild.
She also stated in an interview with Helen Appiah-Ampofo on 3FM Sunrise that a critical reading of the philosophy of the Islamic religion shows so many Hadith that clearly enjoins Muslim men and women to seek education.
“There are so many Hadith that speak about education; that, you must seek education even if you have to travel as far as China and that education is compulsory for both the Muslim man or woman” she stressed.
The astute media personality explained that the early schools were established by missionaries so most Muslim families didn’t allow their children especially the girls to go to the schools to avert their being religiously influenced or their names being Christianized but now things have changed.
“I just want to encourage us to continue because an educated mother is of more benefit to the family” Shamima admonished.
