We feel rejected in Ghana – Béninois
Some nationals of Benin who are domiciled in Ghana are complaining of unfair treatment being meted to them in Accra, Ghana.
According to them, whenever they apply to use state facilities including hospitals, they are not treated with the urgency they deserve, unlike how the locals are treated.
They also claimed that they are charged in dollars when they attempt to patronize the services of these facilities whereas locals are charged in Cedis.
Fabrice Fifonsi, Executive Director at African Parliamentarians Network Against Corruption who appeared on the Beatz Africa programme hosted by Dela Michel on 3 92.7FM called on Ghanaian authorities to intervene and deal with the situation.
He further explained that even some of them who have naturalized to be Ghanaians are still considered and treated as foreigners.
“When you are sick and you go to the hospital they treat you as foreigners, they bill you in dollars and you are paying for the University of the children also in dollars
“So for parents it is not easy,” he said.
Fabrice Fifonsi further indicated that at the moment they feel they are not welcomed in Ghana
“Those are the things that we feel: Are we really welcome in this country? Because the establishment is such a way that you feel rejected,” he said.
Serge Sourou Oga, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Sopodiva mentioned that at “Madina Polyclinic just mention your name and they will begin to ask you whether you are you a Ghanaian?”
