Professor Nick Ossei-Gerning, a Consultant General and Interventional Cardiologist, Spire Hospital Cardiff and St. Joseph’s Hospital, Newport has successfully been installed as the new chief of Effiduase in the Ashanti region.

The 61-year-old chief succeeds the late Nana Adu Ameyaw who passed on in January 2026 after a 35-year reign from 1991.Professor Osei-Gerning, an old student of Mfantsipim School in Cape Coast, answers the stool name of Nana Osei Frimpong Ampem Ababio.
The new chief is the son of late Osei Gerning, Ghana’s permanent representative of UK-based Timber Board for Europe and Nana Abena Konadu Yiadom, the Queen mother of Effiduase.

Nana Osei Frimpong Ampem Ababio has since last Thursday sworn the oath of allegiance to the chiefs and people of Effiduase at an impressive and colourful installation ceremony.
The chief of Ejura, Barima Osei Hwedie II, was there to represent the Mampong Traditional Council in his capacity as the Adontehene of Mampong.

Sub-chiefs and kingmakers of the Effiduase numbering about 35 also took turns to swear their allegiance to the new chief at the ceremony.
The Effiduasehene called for unity among the people and stressed the need for the people, both resident home and abroad, to rally behind him for the development of the community.
The new Effiduasehene will be introduced to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II by his Overlord, Daasebre Osei Bonsu III, Mamponghene at a later date.
Nana Osei Frimpong Ampem Ababio is the Visiting General and Interventional Cardiologist, University of Ghana Medical Centre, Accra, Ghana.
He was Awarded an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for services to Interventional Cardiology in the UK and Africa in the 2024 New Year Honours.

Currently Prof. Ossei-Gerning is working as General and mainly Interventional Cardiologist with two days in the Cardiac Cath Lab per week and a session of clinic and does two to three sessions at Spire Cardiff, as a general and Interventional Cardiologist.
He has maintained his Practice in Ghana, visiting for two weeks every three months to help perform the more complex Interventions. Prof. Ossei-Gerning is also the Medical Director of Euracare Advanced Diagnostic & Heart Centre – Accra, which he successfully set up with the main aim of helping change the face of Cardiology in Sub-Saharan Africa.
In 2016 He was honoured with Professor of Practice at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David for his work in Cardiology and Vasculogenic erectile dysfunction (ED), and currently exploring the psychological effects of heart disease and ED, with professors of Fine Art and Psychology.
He is a leading authority on ED and a member of the British (Council Member), European and International Societies for Sexual Medicine and was also elected to be a member of the International Consultation for Urological Diseases.
He has been a council member of the BSSM for many years, and a co-author of the BSSM guidelines for management of ED. He co-authored “Sexual function and cardiovascular disease: what the general cardiologist needs to know”, published in Heart /BMJ. He has also co-authored and edited several publications on sexual health.
He has also set up the world’s first truly multi-disciplinary team with international status to manage patients with ED and has been the Network Advisor for the Royal College of Physicians and the British Cardiovascular Society for South East Wales.
